With over 25 years of experience, Zapata has developed a diverse body of work that consistently explores themes of sexuality, opulence, and vitality through his distinctive style. His art layers fantasy with reality, drawing viewers into a vibrant, cosmic realm. Renowned for his acclaimed Polo series, Zapata’s recent works include his Zapata Rhinos, Hollywood icons, and pieces inspired by Spanish culture. His background as a songwriter—co-writing for Michael Jackson and Jon Secada—influences his art, as he often integrates text and visual elements to evoke a poetic, immersive experience. In the summer of 2019, Zapata created the largest vinyl mural in New York City’s history for One Times Square. His public commissions also include murals for the restored Colosseum in Rome and the lobby of the Plaza Hotel in New York. Zapata’s work has been showcased in galleries, museums, and fairs across the US, Europe, and Asia. His pieces are held in prominent collections, including those of George Soros, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Goldman Sachs.
