David Wightman, born in 1980 in Stockport, Greater Manchester, UK, is a distinguished British artist known for his captivating paintings and prints, which bring to life imaginary landscapes. Based in London, UK, Wightman employs a unique and intriguing artistic technique. He constructs the surfaces of his works using textured wallpaper, meticulously collaged together in a manner reminiscent of marquetry. Wightman's artistic journey includes a Fine Art education at Middlesex University in 2001 and the attainment of a Master of Arts in Painting from the prestigious Royal College of Art in London in 2003. David Wightman has showcased his exceptional talent in numerous solo exhibitions, such as "Victorialand" at Galerie de Bellefeuille in Toronto, Canada (running until October 24, 2023). Some of his other notable exhibitions include "New Paintings" at Galerie de Bellefeuille in Montréal and Toronto, Canada (2022), "Ariel" at Grove Square Galleries in London (2022), "My Atalanta" at Long & Ryle in London (2020), "In Arcadia" at Duran|Mashaal Gallery in Montréal (2018), and "A Devotion" at Someth1ng Gallery in London (2018), to name a few. In recognition of his artistic contributions, David Wightman received the Berwick Gymnasium Arts Fellowship in 2010, a prestigious six-month residency in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, supported by Arts Council England and English Heritage. In 2013, he was chosen by curator Mariele Neudecker for a site-specific painting project on Brighton's seafront as part of the House Arts Festival, funded by Arts Council England. Notably, in 2014, Wightman collaborated with the renowned fashion label Akris for their Fall/Winter 2014/15 collection. His work has garnered widespread acclaim and has been featured in prominent publications and media outlets, including Harper's Bazaar, The Guardian, Times Radio, The Telegraph, The Financial Times, The World of Interiors, BBC News, BBC London, BBC North West, and Money Week.
