Beverly Fishman

AmericanAmerican
, b. 1955

Beverly Fishman’s neon-hued geometric works captivate with their vibrant colors and dynamic shapes, utilizing both shaped canvases and eye-catching forms within the picture plane. Her subjects span a diverse range, from stars and boxes to human heads and skulls and crossbones, and even include pop culture icons like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Drawing on a wide array of artistic and conceptual influences, Fishman crafts her unique canvases by integrating the industrial-inspired Minimalism of artists like Donald Judd and Frank Stella with techniques borrowed from science and medicine. Her “Pill Reliefs” series, for example, uses shapes derived from pharmacology to create abstract compositions, while her “Dividose” paintings incorporate the linear aesthetics of medical imaging technologies such as EEG and EKG machines. Fishman’s work has been exhibited globally, and her pieces are part of esteemed collections, including the Cranbrook Art Museum, the MacArthur Foundation Collection, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
